IOC and Trump attack trans rights: It’s time to fight back
On Transgender Day of Visibilty, let's take a look at the recent anti trans IOC decision and the current protests in the US.
On Thursday the IOC (International Olympics Committee) announced a new “Policy on the Protection of the Female (Women’s) Category in Olympic Sport”, In short the policy limits eligibility to participate in any women’s event at the Olympic Games, including individual and team sports, to “biological” women. The policy would subject athletes to a one‑time SRY gene screening. This decision applies to the 2028 Olympics, and any future Olympics, and does not affect any medalists in previous Olympics.
Almost immediately, Trump was quick to give the IOC a half compliment “praising” them for their policy but ultimately taking credit for the decision. “Congratulations to the International Olympic Committee on their decision to ban Men from Women’s Sports. This is only happening because of my powerful Executive Order, standing up for Women and Girls! President DONALD J. TRUMP”. This statement from Trump demonstrates that he has the corrupt club of capitalist aka IOC in his pocket and how tightly he controls them and many other sporting clubs, FIFA for example. The Olympic Committee should be more concerned about taking care of and protecting all athletes, however, since the entire committee is fueled by greedy capitalists, Trump’s opinion of them seems to be their top priority.
This decision by the IOC seems to be very politically motivated. You might be wondering where the 2028 Olympics will take place? I’m so glad you asked, why, they’re happening in Los Angeles, and where is that again? Oh yeah, that’s right… It seems that the International Olympic Committee are so committed to making more money to line their already thickly lined pockets, that they are happy to sacrifice a group of people who have been segregated, marginalized, and mistreated their entire lives and now the current US administration is trying to deny their very existence. On Trump’s first day back in office, he issued a sweeping order that stated the government would only recognize two unchangeable sexes:female and male.
The administration once again claims the purpose is to protect women, saying: „Efforts to eradicate the biological reality of sex fundamentally attack women by depriving them of their dignity, safety, and well-being.“ This is nothing short of an attempt to eradicate trans and non binary people. Women, in turn, need to protect themselves from Trump and the other thugs whose names are on Epstein’s list. What about women and girls regardless of whether they were born that way or not who want to be able to make their own decisions about their bodies and reproductive health without the government regulating everything.
A growing resistance
There has been very little news coming from the United States at the moment. A lot of accounts have been shadow banned on social media, and a lot of people are currently unaware of what is happening. The US is in the longest partial government shutdown in history, over 44 days. The following agencies have been affected by the shutdown, U.S. Coast Guard,Transportation Security Administration (TSA), Customs and Border Protection (CBP) Federal Emergency Management Agency (FEMA) Federal Law Enforcement Training Centers (FLETC). One agency, remarkably, has continued to be paid this entire time and has stepped up in other capacities to “help out” and that is ICE. ICE agents have recently been deployed at airports to aid with passenger security checks which have been so long they stretch outside the airport. However, many passengers are rightfully scared about flying due to ICE’s presence in the airports.
The solutions to these shutdowns are not for the democrats to cooperate with the republicans. What we need is for the people to rise up and demand that ICE is immediately removed from all airports and all cities. On Saturday there was another “No Kings Day” in the United States. According to the organizers 8 million people across the US came to protest against Trump. The people and unions need to demand the right for self regulation, an end to all wars and military sanctions in Iran, Central America and Cuba. The No Kings Day protests are a good start but what is needed is a general strike in the United States where all workers, students and unions take to the street. People need to demand that all athletes are free to compete in any sporting event without being shamed or subjected to unnecessary testing.
